Resource Works has once again demonstrated why it is one of the most dynamic, growing, and influential players in the Canadian energy and resource debate. On Tuesday, December 17, Resource Works co-partnered with the venerable Empire Club of Canada to host a meeting of minds in Toronto, bringing together Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Andrew Furey, the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.

As part of the Empire Club’s Fall Energy Series, the event attracted 400 business leaders for an in-depth discussion on Canada’s role as a resource-rich powerhouse in the global economy.

Keynote speeches and fireside chats, moderated by Mike Van Soelen—an Empire Club director and partner at the Oyster Group—highlighted the energy “trilemma” of sustainability, affordability, and reliability, while exploring Canada’s potential in the critical minerals sector.

Resource Works played an essential role in organizing this event. Its ability to coordinate major initiatives, such as the Fall Energy Series in Toronto, the annual Indigenous Partnerships Success Showcase in Vancouver, and the upcoming Natural Resource Forum in Prince George, has been instrumental in advancing national conversations on energy and resources.

From urban centres to rural regions, Western Canada to Atlantic Canada, and everywhere in between, Resource Works is dedicated to bridging regional perspectives and expanding the resource dialogue to ensure that the highest levels of government engage with these critical issues. Resources are the lifeblood of communities and vital to our national well-being.

Premier Smith emphasized Alberta’s leadership in global energy security and shared her strong opposition to federal oil and gas caps. Premier Furey seized the opportunity to highlight Newfoundland and Labrador’s contributions to sustainable offshore energy.

This Empire Club event marked Resource Works’ latest foray as one of Western Canada’s most vocal and visible advocates for natural resources. Last April, in collaboration with the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, Resource Works hosted an address by Polish President Andrzej Duda.

President Duda underscored the need for global energy security and called for greater cooperation on energy and critical infrastructure.

If one thing is clear, it is that Resource Works has been a proud supporter and contributor as a non-profit championing natural resources. Every day, it strives to inform industry, government, and the public about why resources matter to all Canadians—now and in the future.
